Billy Elliot - Sunday 1 February 2009 - Access to the Theatre
|
|
On Sunday 1 February 2009, Chinese New Year celebrations will take place in the Chinatown Precinct of Melbourne, to herald the Year of the Ox. Activities on that day will involve the closure of Exhibition Street in front of Her Majesty's Theatre. If you are expecting to attend the performance of Billy Elliot at 3:00pm on that day, you may need to take additional steps to ensure you arrive at the theatre in time for the start of the show. Exhibition Street will be closed from Bourke Street through to Lonsdale Street. Little Bourke Street will be closed from Spring Street right through to Swanston Street. Russell Street will be closed from Bourke Street through to Lonsdale Street. If you are driving into the city, you should allow additional time as the streets around HMT may be busier than usual. Also, commercial car parks may also be busier than usual with people attending the Chinese New Year celebrations. If you are arriving by taxi, you will need to be dropped off on the corner of Exhibition Street and either Bourke Street or Lonsdale Street. The front doors of the theatre are approx. 100 metres walk from both these intersections. If you will require a taxi after the show, taxis will not be able to get to the theatre. You will need to arrange collection on Bourke or Lonsdale Streets or just hail a passing cab on surrounding streets. Unless you need to bring a vehicle into the city, we recommend you travel by public transport on that day. Parliament Station, on the City Loop line, is one block from Her Majesty's. And trams running along Bourke St stop near the corner of both Russell and Spring Streets - this would mean a walk of approx. a block and a half to the theatre. |
